I just reinstalled GW after not playing it for like 2 years, And now I am waiting at
ascloan city and it is downloading a bunch of files dose this happen every time I want to play or is just a patch

you are downloading everything thats happened in the 2 years you were gone. sit back and wait...

And this download won't even be the whole dat file. So as you go into a new area, you will encounter more downloads.

To avoid that, follow the instructions at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Command_line to create an -image icon and the next time you can manage it (while you're sleeping) you can use that to download the rest of the dat file.
